Dear Parents and Students:

It is with great pleasure and a wonderful sense of anticipation that I write to you for the opening of the 2012-2013 school year. I wish to give a special word of welcome to all of our new families who have joined us here at Crittenton Community School. The staff and I look forward to forging strong and lasting relationships with you as together we support your children on their life-journey of learning.

To our existing families, we welcome you back to a new chapter in the lives of your children – one in which we trust that they will continue to grow in knowledge and success. To assist students in their goal to succeed, we have the Extra Mile Program for students who need to catch up on, or complete assignments offered to students on a voluntary basis. I can see absolutely no reason why any student at CCS should not achieve their highest academic goals. Given the enormous effort that our teachers have worked to prepare for this school year, I feel encouraged to focus your attention on your children as they gear up for the new academic year. For by itself and without the commitment of each individual student, success will be limited. We need every student to own their responsibility for their learning and this process begins in your home, when you discuss these issues and help your children to set realistic goals for the year ahead.

I appeal to you to ensure that you allocate some good, quality time to this process. Encourage your child to write out exactly what they intend to achieve and keep these goals somewhere where they are visible and can be regularly referred to throughout the year.

Be sensitive to allowing your child to set goals that are either too ambitious or not ambitious enough. Goals that are clearly out of reach for a particular child can only lead to heartbreak and disillusionment when they are not achieved and Goals that are not ambitious enough will merely set the child up to ‘cruise.’ Good goals ensure significant, incremental change throughout the year. The setting and achievement of meaningful goals is a life habit that can only benefit your child in their future lives!

At Crittenton CommunitySchool we provide our students with opportunities to establish relationships with their teachers and classmates while introducing them to the expectations and underpinnings of life at CCS.  All of these activities provide a firm foundation upon which each child can base their Goals and aspirations for the year.

Two important documents that you will need to refer to during the course of the year are the School Calendar and the2012 Handbook. Both of these documents can be found online on our website:www.e-ccs.org. If you have any queries or concerns, please feel free to contact the school. We believe that it is critically important for your child’s educational experience that they have a sense that a positive, healthy relationship exists between their parents and the School. This provides them with a sense of security which is a foundation for good learning!

I look forward to seeing you around the School and I wish you “THE VERY BEST” in the year ahead.Sincerely,
